The history of 3Shape
For over two decades, 3Shape has set the standard in digital dentistry with its innovative technology and award-winning Scandinavian design. From humble beginnings as a small startup to a market leader, the company continues to break barriers.
2000
3SHAPE IS FOUNDED
In 1999, Danish university students Nikolaj Deichmann, a business major, andTais Clausen, an engineer, met and having discussed Clausen's master thesis(3D imaging) decided to pursue a business idea together. They opened acompanyunder the name 3Shape. During the next fve years, 3Shapeworked almost exclusively with hearing aid companies. The company grew,enabling them to shift gears and focus on what would become their primaryindustry, dentistry.
2005
RELEASE OF THE FIRST DENTAL LAB SOFTWARE
In 2005, 3Shape introduced its frst dental lab restorative design and CAMproduction software. During this period, 3Shape opened an offce ofdevelopers in Kyiv, Ukraine, and a manufacturing site in Poland that quicklybegan producing one thousand scanners yearly.
2011
THE FIRST TRIOS INTRAORAL SCANNER RELEASED
The 3Shape TRlOS intraoral scanner was launched in 2011. lt was the frstintraoral scanner on the market to enable powder-free intraoral scanning.
2015
TRIOS 3 RELEASED
3Shape's innovation and popularity continued to grow, highlighted by therelease ofthe TRlOS 3 intraoral scanner in 2015. The radically different TRlOS3 was faster and more ergonomic than anyintraoral scanner.
2017
NEVER RESTING,ALWAYS INNOVATING
Two years later, 3Shape introduced TRlOS 3 Wireless - the world's frstwireless intraoral scanner. lt was the world's frst and only wireless intraoralscanner - a distinction that would take other scanner makers four years toreplicate.
2020
NEW LEADERSHIP
In 2020, Clausen and Deichmann stepped down from the company's day-to-day management, although they remain owners and active members ofthe Board. Jorgen Jensen was named Chair of the Board of Directors, and anew CEO, Jakob Just-Bomholt, was appointed.
2021
A UNITED ECOSYSTEM
In 2021, 3Shape launched 3Shape Unite which allowed professionals to scantheir patients and then go to the platform and choose a treatment, partneror lab to send their TRlOS scan.
2022
TRIOS 5 WIRELESS LAUNCHED
At the and of2022, 3Shape released its smallest and lightest scanner to dateTRlOS 5 Wireless. The new TRlOS included more then fftyimprovements inease ofuse and design compared to previous models.
2023
THE MOMENT CONTINUES
2023 was a year of continued momentum as the TRlOS 5 Wireless won aplethora ofindustry awards, including "Best New lmaging Product," "HighTechnology Launch of the Year," the eleventh consecutive Cellerant awardfor best scanner, and a Red Dot design award. The Cellerant Board alsopresented TRlOS 5 with a special "Hygiene award." The F8 dual-model labscanner was also awarded a Red Dot “Best ofthe Best" award, recognizing itsfresh, open design.
2024
A RECORD-BREAKING YEAR OF RELEASES
In 2024, 3Shape released more products than any other year. This includedthe TRlOS Core intraoral scanner - the company's most affordable TRlOSscanner to date. Rounding out the releases was the TRlOS 5 Ready Tip, asingle-use scanner tip, a new look TRlOS 3 with the smaller and lighter podand Unite 3rd Generation software, which included cloud storage and scanfles access from anywhere.
