After recently receiving medical device certification in Japan, EchoPixel’s True3D pre-op software technology has been adopted by Miyazaki University Hospital, thanks to its partnership with Century Medical Corporation, a Japanese-based company dedicated to seeking out cutting-edge medical devices to introduce locally.

This first-of-its-kind software platform creates a hologram of the heart for study before an incision is ever made, and then True3D’s tools guide surgical teams through procedures using a holographic digital twin of the patient. The workstation facilitates a four-dimensional evaluation of the moving cardiac macrovascular region, which is invaluable in treating dynamic organs like the heart with high reproducibility and accuracy.

Dr. Furukawa, Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Miyazaki University Hospital, emphasized True3D's groundbreaking capabilities. He noted that this technology is particularly beneficial for young doctors and physician education, enhancing their grasp of patient anatomy and diseases through its three-dimensional context, which offers a previously unattainable level of detail.

The technology allows surgeons to simulate procedures on the hologram before the actual surgery, enabling them to identify the optimal approach and enhance surgical safety. This approach reduces uncertainty, instills confidence and improves surgical skills.

“We are delighted that our technology is being quickly embraced in Japan, just as it has been in the United States, providing benefits for both routine and complex procedures,” says CEO Sergio Aguirre. “It’s gratifying to be able to help introduce ‘the OR of the future’ around the world.”
